The preparation method was based on solvent‐evaporation induced self‐assembly (EISA), with MTES (CH 3 –Si(OCH 2 CH 3 ) 3 ) as the silica precursor and a polystyrene‐ block ‐poly(ethylene oxide) (PS‐ b ‐PEO) diblock copolymer as the structure‐directing agent. 2013-06-11 · This can be regarded as a kind of heteroepitaxy because the lattice constant at the surface is different from that of the bulk of the film. On the basis of this new concept, highly aligned mesostructured silica films with structural periodicities as large as 10 nm are successfully formed, which has never been achieved when the block copolymers are used alone as the structure-directing agent. Thin films ofbicontinuous cubic mesostructured silica were formed using the nonionic poly(oxyethylene)-alkyl ether surfactant Brij-56 as a structure-directing agent. The synthesis conditions were chosen such that the estimated volume fraction of surfactant in the silica/surfactant films corresponded approximately to the composition at which the bicontinuous cubic phase occurs in the water/surfactant phase diagram.
