To verify that a kexts could cause high cpu usage, reboot the computer in safe mode and check if kernel_task uses too much cpu. If you find that in safe mode everything is ok, there seems to be a problem with a thirdparty. To start up in safe mode: Start or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key.

To get rid of it, i have to unplug laptop, sleep and then wake. Then kernel_task stays around 5-10%. As soon as i plug it back again,it goes to 50% cpu usage again. It happened in mojave for me too. Hello everyone, I'm having extremely high CPU usage and it's being caused by kernel_task. When looking around on the internet for the problem most people note that their fans are going crazy and most answers to the problem seem related to the fans/heat of the mac book.

High CPU load by kernel_task often means that your Mac is getting too hot somewhere, or is at risk of heating up. In the example quoted above, the cause is in a thermal sensor placed by the left USB-C ports in many MacBook Pro models. kernel_task isn’t causing the thermal problem, it’s part of your Mac’s response to it. In other words, kernel_task responds to conditions that cause your CPU to become too hot. When the temperature decreases, kernel_task automatically reduces its activity. In other words, excessive CPU use of kernel_task itself is a symptom of a problem, not a problem itself.

kernel_task high CPU Hi! i know there is a lot of threads about this problem all over the web, but i'm a heavy user since the first hackintosh has been made possible, and i have already got this fix with the iMac****.plist several times before.

I have the "CPU Simple" trace as well, however I don't see what could have caused this high kernel CPU usage. :( – Igor Malin Apr 20 '16 at 3:56 share the ETL (zipped to reduce the size) on OneDrive and post a link here. Extremely high CPU % for kernel_task, hardly any usage from any other application (just in case, I deleted VirtualBox and Adobe stuff - no luck), constantly audible fan, and no heat whatsoever.

Kernel_task High CPU Usage. Close. 1. Posted by 1 month ago. Kernel_task High CPU Usage. Hi, please, I have a problem with my iMAC late 2013, OS: Sierra.

kernel_task isn’t causing the thermal problem, it’s part of your Mac’s response to it.

In other words, kernel_task responds to conditions that cause your CPU to become too hot, even if your Mac doesn't feel hot to you. Here’s the thing: kernel_task is an overarching system entity, and reducing abnormally high CPU usage to cool down your Mac’s hardware is merely one of its functions. There are additional deep-level services combined under its umbrella. High CPU usage by the kernel_task process can be caused by high Thunderbolt Left Proximity temperature when you’re charging and have peripherals plugged in at the same time. To balance the temperature, you need to balance the load of the thunderbolt ports. High kernel_task CPU Usage is due to high chassis temperature caused by charging.
